Sinharaja Rainforest Day Tour

Tour Overview

Sinharaja Forest Reserve is Sri Lanka’s last surviving lowland tropical rainforest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site of staggering biodiversity where the density of endemic species is among the highest of any protected area on earth, and where the experience of walking beneath an intact primary forest canopy is one of the most profound nature encounters the island offers. Accompanied by a specialist naturalist guide with deep knowledge of this unique ecosystem, guests explore the forest interior on well-maintained trails that cross streams, pass through cathedral-like stands of ancient trees, and occasionally open to glimpses of the misty hill country rising beyond the forest edge. Sinharaja is renowned for its ‘bird wave’ phenomenon, a moving flock of a dozen or more endemic bird species that sweeps through the canopy together in a thrilling display of colour and sound and for its array of reptiles, amphibians, butterflies and endemic plants found nowhere else on earth.
